Betty Caroli, the author of a book on First Ladies, gives a lecture on the changing role of the president?s wife. Despite the title, the majority of the lecture is devoted to the varying levels of political and social participation for many first ladies throughout America?s history. Caroli concludes her lecture by explaining how Hillary Clinton changed the role of the First Lady by being far more actively involved in the political process. During the questioning session she discusses the role of the media in the representation of the First Lady, the uniqueness of Hillary Clinton, and what the future holds for the spouses of the President.
