William Zartman is a professor of international organization and conflict studies and the director of African studies at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies who has published many works on failed states and conflict resolution in Africa. He develops a model for collapsed states, focusing his examples on collapsed states in Africa, and discusses steps that can be taken to put states back together.
