Jeffery Tulis, the acting chairman of government department at the University of Texas, lectures on political deference. He cites several areas of political deference in America that have changed in the 20th century. He identifies these areas as Senate confirmation of Supreme Court nominees, executive privilege, treaties, out-of court contempt, the Gramm-Rudman bill, and the War Powers resolution. He continues to discuss the changes in the American political system that has necessitated alteration in the policy of deference. Following his lecture, Tulis answers questions on the Supreme Court's deference, Madison's understanding the separation of powers, deference, self-interest, and risk avoidance.
