Event Details
Peri Arnold, a professor from the University of Notre Dame, gives a forum on the progressive presidency. Examining the period of 1900 to 1917, Arnold attempts to shed light on an aspect of the presidency he feels is far too often overlooked. He argues that this period of the American presidency is especially important as it in many ways shaped the modern presidency. The switch of power primacy from the legislative branch to the executive branch under Roosevelt, Taft and Wilson brought about the most critical and enduring changes of the progressive period. During the questioning session, Arnold addresses the impact of the presidents? personalities and the social and political context of the progressive period.
