Event Details
English professor Paul Cantor explains the confrontation between rhetoric and philosophy by using Plato's Phaedrus, which he briefly summarizes in the beginning. He addressed the influence of Plato's work on Aristotle's treatise on rhetoric, as well as Derrida's analysis of Plato's writing. During the questioning time, he analyzes the impact of his conclusions on the theory of modern education, Platonic understanding of nature, the deceptive quality of rhetoric, and the relationship of rhetoric and philosophy to opinion and knowledge.
