Beginning with a history of his long association with President Ford and the details of the development of the latter's political career, the speaker addresses the causes of his resignation, the effects and various other aspects of Ford's pardon of President Nixon, Ford's principal advisers, and the conflict between Ford loyalists and the "Praetorian Guard." He also discusses the selection of Vice President Rockefeller, Rockefeller in the context of the election of 1976, public criticism of President Ford concerning traits such as his alleged awkwardness, the skills necessary to the press secretary in order to withhold information from the public, and President Ford's acquaintance with the nuclear code.
