Former science adviser to President Ford addresses the role of the science adviser and the issues surrounding the functioning of the science adviser in the government, as well as the Ford presidency. Beginning with the causes for the establishment of the office of White House office for science, he discusses the early spheres of influence of science advisors and the science advising during the Nixon Administration. He discusses the units of government with which he cooperated, and the issues of science advising in the U.S. relations with the Soviet Union. Later on he discusses the role of the science advisor in the problem between Canada and the U.S. concerning acid rain, the role of science adviser in penetrating the secrecy concerning foreign nuclear accidents, the relationship between science and politics, and the issues related to the Strategic Defense Initiative.When
