Event Details

Beginning with a description of her work and the Australian newspaper business in the United States, this journalist discusses the difference between American journalism and its Australian counterpart as it relates to general coverage and the coverage of the U.S. politics in particular, as well as the historical and cultural differences between the two countries. She discusses Australia's national politics and political notions, as well as political norms and practices. She addresses the Australian perception of Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter, and her experience of explaining America's actions to Australians. During the questioning time, she addresses further the Australian coverage of various events in American politics (such as the Cuban Missile Crisis), the difference between Australia's and New Zealand's view on nuclear issues, Australia's relationship with Indonesia, and Americans' perception of Australia.
