Scott Kennedy

Scott Kennedy is senior adviser and trustee chair in Chinese Business and Economics at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. A leading authority on Chinese economic policy and U.S.–China commercial relations, Kennedy's articles appear in a wide array of policy, popular, and academic venues. His recent major publications include Managing U.S.–China Tensions over the Global Economic Order: Tentative Proposals and U.S.–China Scholarly Recoupling: Advancing Mutual Understanding in an Era of Intense Rivalry. Kennedy hosts the China Field Notes podcast. He received a PhD in political science from George Washington University, an MA from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, and a BA from the University of Virginia.

Brantly Womack

Brantly Womack, a Miller Center faculty senior fellow, is professor emeritus of foreign affairs at the University of Virginia. He is the author of Recentering Pacific Asia (2023), Asymmetry and International Relationships (2016), China Among Unequals: Asymmetric International Relationships in Asia (2010), China and Vietnam: The Politics of Asymmetry (2006), as well as more than 100 articles and book chapters. In 2011, Womack received the China Friendship Award for his work with Chinese universities. He holds honorary positions at Jilin University, East China Normal University, and Zhongshan (Sun Yat-Sen) University.

Aynne Kokas (moderator)

Aynne Kokas is the C. K. Yen Professor at the Miller Center, director of the University of Virginia's East Asia Center, and a professor of media studies at UVA. A Fulbright scholar educated at the University of Michigan, with a PhD from UCLA, Kokas is a fellow in the Public Intellectuals Program of the National Committee on U.S.–China Relations. She is the author of Hollywood Made in China, a study of the partnerships between Chinese and American producers to produce feature films for global audiences, and Trafficking Data: How China is Winning the Battle for Digital Sovereignty, which examines how weak U.S. data security benefits U.S. firms while expanding the Chinese government's digital control. Her research has been supported by the Library of Congress, National Endowment for the Humanities, Mellon Foundation, and Social Science Research Council.
