Professor Rodolfo Stavenhagen is a professor at Stanford University who has built a career on applied anthropology, focusing on the problem of ethnic identity. Professor Stavenhagen discusses the factors that spark ethnic confrontations and the historical situations such as colonialism that exacerbate these problems. Stavenhagen also spends a significant amount of time on the relationship between ethnicity and nationalism and ethnicity and politics. In the question and answer session, Professor Stavenhagen addresses the role of NGOs, ethnicity in Mexico specifically, and problems in Quebec.
